How To Apply Touch-Up Paint

February 1st, 2021 by

Your car will have its share of nicks and scratches no matter how careful you are, so it’s a good idea to add some touch-up experience to your skill set. With a pot of matching paint and just a little bit of time and effort, you can have that ding in your paint’s finish looking like it never happened.

If the area has any rust, that’s a different sort of fix, and covering it with paint is not advised. If the scratch or nick is fresh, sand the area lightly, clean thoroughly and put a small amount of primer on the imperfection. Dab on paint, taking care to only cover the area of the nick and not unblemished paint.

Allow your repair to dry thoroughly for a couple of days, then wash and wax your vehicle. This will protect your new paint and help it blend with the existing paint.
